Seasonal Position April-January
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Train Conductor to lead our Scenic Train in creating memorable train excursions to all our passengers at The Historic Mount Hood Railroad. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Hospitality, acting/theater experience, the ability to engage and interact with passengers of all ages. This role requires excellent public speaking skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the Railroad Staff and Depot Staff.

Responsibilities

Pre-Boarding: Welcome Script in the Train Depot, preboarding, give the ALL ABOARD
Boarding: help passengers to correct train cars, assist with boarding, possible assist with ADA Lifts, confirm all vestibules have been closed with stewards, communicate with depot staff all passengers are boarded & to train engineer for all clear.
During Train: Live narration during points of interest, history of Mount Hood Railroad, Punch Child Tickets, talk about the history of each train car
Take photos, help hand out treats
Layover: Announce layover time and time of reboard, drive tractor trolley for those needing assistance walking at the layover.
Departure from Layover: sweep for any passengers left lingering
Assisting with reboarding
Give the All Board, confirm closure of all vestibules, all clear to engineer
Greet passengers on the return trip, finish punching child tickets
Help Prep/ Stock Train - report to Depot of any reorder needs
Help Clean Train
Foster a positive work environment that encourages creativity
Communicate regularly with Depot Staff & Hospitality Staff
Additional options to fulfill a full day: Orchard Tour Guide as a Farmer driving a tractor trolley through the orchard with fun facts about farming in Hood River. Also, Factory Tour guide and walk guest through creating personalized gift basket at The Fruit Company.
Qualifications
Strong public speaking skills with the ability to engage an audience.
Experience in theater is highly desirable.
Experience with Hospitality or Customer Service
Ability to memorize a script
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work collaboratively with a team

Train & Tour Schedule Details: 8:30am-4:30pm

Thursday, Friday & Saturday (adding Wednesday in Summer/ two trains in Fall Fri & Saturday)

Factory Tours: 9:45-10:30am (45min tour)

Scenic Train is 11:30-2pm (2.5 hour tour) (Fall Trains 11:30-5pm)

Orchard Tours 3pm-4pm (1 hr tour)

Possible Halloween Train (Schedule change)

Polar Express Train Nov-Jan (Schedule changes)
